Are you trying to make an international transfer but receiving a message stating that you are not authorised to do so?
Due to a security system built into BILnet, a country must be activated before you can transfer money to that country online.
Change the list of countries yourself by accessing the Personal Area of your left-hand BILnet menu at any time, or by contacting the BILnet technical hotline via secure messaging or by calling 00352 4590 4590 (8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays) to request access.

Are you trying to make a larger transfer than usual but are not authorised to do so?
Due to a security system built into BILnet, the amount that you can transfer online is limited. This amount is indicated in your BILnet contract and can be consulted by clicking on Daily limits under the Personal area menu. You can alter these daily transaction limits at any time by going to the BILnet Personal Area menu.

Any transfer or standing order created during this time period may be cancelled in the five minutes following its submission.

* Transfers glossary
Responsibility for fees
1. For Eurotransferts* (euro transfers within the SEPA zone):
By default, the transfer fees are shared between yourself and the beneficiary. This applies to all Eurotransferts made by any bank within the SEPA zone (all EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland).
In any case, the transaction is carried out in full:
Banque Internationale à Luxembourg and the beneficiary bank must transfer the total payment amount and refrain from deducting any fees from the transfer amount. It is possible, however, in certain exceptional cases, that the beneficiary may have agreed with their bank that it may deduct its fees from the transfer amount before crediting the beneficiary.
2. For transactions other than Eurotransferts:
You are free to choose between the three following options:
a) Shared (SHA): BIL transaction charges are payable by the ordering client, the receiving bank’s charges are payable by the beneficiary. This is the only possible choice for the United States.
b) Payable by the ordering client (OUR): BIL transaction charges and the receiving bank’s charges are payable by the ordering client; the full amount of the transfer is therefore credited to the beneficiary.
c) Payable by the beneficiary (BEN): BIL transaction charges and the receiving bank’s charges are payable by the beneficiary.
Payment currency
Selection of currency in which the transfer will be made.
Execution date
You can schedule a transfer to be executed on a given date within 12 months of registering it.
Debit advice
In addition to your account statement, an advice note informing you that the transfer has been completed is sent to you by post or via BILnet's "zero paper" service in PDF format.
IBAN
In Luxembourg, entering the bank account in IBAN format is mandatory.
Entering international transfers/standing orders in IBAN format is operational for most countries and highly recommended in order to benefit from preferential rates.
SEPA zone
All European Union countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland.
BIC/SWIFT code
The BIC/SWIFT code is used to refer to a bank in national and international payment systems by identifying its name and its geographical location. Entering the BIC/SWIFT code enables transfers and standing orders to be processed automatically and dispenses with the need to provide the name and address of the bank. Furthermore, if you enter the name of the bank and the BIC/SWIFT code, only the latter will be taken into account when executing your payment order.
NSC
The NSC (National Sort Code), also called the Bankleitzahl, National Clearing Code or National Clearing System Code depending on the country, is a code which refers to the bank and the beneficiary's branch.
N.B.: given that an account number entered in IBAN format automatically includes the beneficiary's bank code, it is unnecessary to enter the NSC. The latter is therefore not taken into account when executing your payment order.
Eurotransfer fee schedule
The BIL Eurotransfer fee schedule only applies if the account number is entered in IBAN format and the transfer currency is the euro. If one of these conditions is not met, you will be charged additional fees. For further information, please consult our fee schedules under the Useful Information section.
